Wasn't sure where to post this, please move if needed!

I have a np700g7c-s02uk and F4 has broken. i now found out that I should have used the System Restore function first and made an Admin disk.

However I now cannot get into the Recovery to make the disc. F4 just doesn't work. I tried grub methods, downloading SRS USB 5 and fixing the mbr and similar but nothing works. I think it is because the disc is formatted GTP?

Is there anyway to fix this without going to Samsung and paying lots of money. The SRS 6 that I think I need doesn't seem to be downloadable and as I can't boot into the Recovery partition I cannot make one. Chicken and egg I think

If anyone can help I would be eternally grateful!

Hi,

I'm trying to figure out where the files that make up my backup from Samsung Recovery III are actually located so I can back them up externally. (Actually what I'm really trying to do is install Linux while preserving the files I might need to restore to factory later.)

I've a NP-N140 and looking at the hard disk it looks like this:

Code:

Disk /dev/sda: 160.0 GB, 160041885696 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 19457 cylinders, total 312581808 sectors
Units = sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes
Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
Disk identifier: 0x5f63f044

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/sda1 63 14683409 7341673+ 12 Compaq diagnostics
/dev/sda2 * 14683410 163678207 74497399 7 HPFS/NTFS/exFAT
/dev/sda3 163678208 312578047 74449920 7 HPFS/NTFS/exFAT

From what I've read the first disk which does not appear in Windows is the recovery disk sitting somewhere arround 7 Gb is size, but that doesn't have any backup on it. It's just the software for restoring, right?

So I found a couple of lightly folders on the two 72 Gb ish sized disks. "System Volume Information" which there is a folder named on each of the two disks, and "SamsungRecovery" which is only on one disk. Are these the files I need to backup? Is that all of them?

I have an N130 and upgraded XP to Windows 8. But then filled my harddrive. I had a 25gb partition that was mostly empty.

So decided to boot into the SRS admin tool and re-define the partition structure. But now im stuck!

It asks me if I want to use the Windows 7 structure? I said yes. But now I have four partitions!
Recovery 10gb
System 100mb
Windows 25gb
TEMP_PART01 200gb

Is the recovery the actual windows backup?
Is system the SRS software?
And can I merge Windows and TEMP_PART01 and install windows there?

I understand Windows 7 saw a new partition structure but I dont know what changed.

Many thanks

Hey folks, the names Steve, I live in North Wales UK.

Just bought a Series 5 Notebook NP550p7c UK so thought I'd join here.
Also bought a Samsung 840 Pro SSD to pop in the spare bay.
Migrated OS and installed in spare bay, all is working well bar the Intel RST prog. which got installed somehow.
I know very little about this really but I just can't get it to run.
It starts up and shows in hidden icons but hovering over it reveals "Intel RST service not running".
If I open it it just sits there saying "trying to connect to service"

I've done some research and see that there may be bugs in the prog. Also certain boards cause issues with it.
I've done quite a bit with pc's over the years but never tackled a problem such as this.

Do I need it, if not how do I remove it? I can prevent it from starting of course.
Or is there something I have to disable / enable somewhere to get it to function correctly?

I've looked in the bios but unless I'm missing something ( very likely ) I can't see anything I can change.
I have updated the bios. and it seems rather limited fiddle-wise.

Hope someone can advise.
Cheers!

Hello all,

I have a white Sammy NC10 which has been perfect over the years. When I am home I usually use it with the battery removed to avoid numerous small charge and discharge cycles. Even so, I'm fairly sure that my battery has now failed. When I connect the charger the NC10 power light turns from green to orange for just a second or two and then back to green. The machine continues to run fine but the battery does not accept any charge. The Samsung Windows app shows 0% charge. I see from Googling that others have had this issue which usually means the battery has degraded.

I'm just looking for some advice on where is a good place to get a decent 3rd party battery. I don't really need an extra capacity unit because most of my operation is on mains but might consider it anyway. My main consideration is that it delivers the quoted capacity, so I can work out how long it will last between charges and of course it should be white.

And recommendations for a good source would be appreciated.

Many thanks,

Sol.
