Does it wipe the D: drive or just C: ?

Have a look at this post - an extract from the help file - it should answer your queries
2x Black NC10's (1x hsdpa) 2 GB + Win 7 and XP dual boot + UNR & Chrome OS, Nokia Lumia 920 WP8 on 4G
Ownership of 2 NC10s is completely unnecassary. Give one of them to someone who would make better use of it.
I read that extract, and nowhere did it mention whether files on drive D: would be kept or not. It only mentions that the C: drive will be wiped, which is not good enough unfortunately.
It looks like I will have to break out the external hard drive!

FWIW the second sammy is now my wifes, as has been mentioned on this forum before. She most likely wouldn't take to kindly to being thought of as being unnecessary![]()
I would deduce that if Samsung Recovery Solution is restoring from the hidden partition and if the D drive was going to be overwritten in the process then it's not unreasonable to assume the help file would have stated that fact, and it does not.I read that extract, and nowhere did it mention whether files on drive D: would be kept or not. Perhaps you should read the manual. Start > All Programs > Samsung > User Guide
Seem like a good idea if your feeling nervousIt looks like I will have to break out the external hard drive!

Unless you saved the Samsung Recovery Solution backup to an external drive or DVD, the D: drive is the source of the files being restored, so obviously the files on drive D: are kept. Even if you did save an external backup, the fact that the D: drive is not mentioned in jeepers01's guide implies that the D: drive is kept intact.
If you need more information, the NC10's manual starting on page 166 is a good reference and includes this flowchart which gives a graphical representation of jeepers01's useful guide:

Backing up to an external device (or more than one external media, if you're as paranoid as me) is always a good idea - just in case you have a HDD failure![]()

Hmm I'd like to have around 40 (or more), they would probably make a nice fairly low power cluster with built in UPS. Not sure how computationally powerful it would be though...
Anyway I digress...

Alfihar - with a cluster like that I'm sure you would be asked to join the old UK grid computing programme

After that I might buy another 9,999,999I have had an iffy day today and yesterday
Yeah, I'll put my stuff on the external drive!
Black NC10 with 2GB of RAM running Vista Ultimate SP2
When I got my new N110 I first booted up from an USB stick and made a (ghost) backup of the hidden partition to another USB stick.
The hidden partition contains:
[boot]
[Efi]
[Sources] (emtpy)
[WinClon] (100mb including admin tool for SRSIII)
some files in the root including winre.wim a 180 Mb image file.
I then checked the C partition and since it was too much to put on my USB stick I made an image (ghost) of that to the D partition.
I then booted the N110 as normal, installed windows with standard settings and then went to the D partition to check my backup. The D partition is empty and my backup is gone! If you think of storing anything on the D partition, the initial bootup/installation will wipe it.
So if you want to make a full backup of whatever is on your Samsung, make sure you have a bootable device that is large enough to hold both the hidden partition and C partition.
The winre.wim file that was on the hidden partition seems to be a windows version that does the initial installation. My Samsung version gave me an option to select the windows language version etc. and this seems to be loaded from the C partition.
Btw, note that a recovery procedure (F4) to go back to the 'initial' state is not the same state as the state before you first boot up the Samsung. It is in fact the state after the initial bootup.
So I have to find another way to get the original contents now...
