NB30 - changing hard drive - couple questions

    Hello everybody!
I want to change the hard drive in my new nb30 - there is 250gb 5.400 rpm one and I'd like 160gb/250gb 7.200rpm. I have couple of questions:

    1. Do they carry 2.5" units or some other size?
    2. I want to install Windows 7 professional on the new hd - where can I find something about how to put things together as it is on fresh netbooks? I wonder how to install all drivers and other samsung's soft, vasicly is there any order of this stuff?
    3. Is it hard to disassemble the unit to get hd changed? Will I loose my warranty??
    4. Does anyone know the exact model of hd in NP-NB30-JT01UK 250gb?

    Thank you for all answers

    Cheers

    Welcome to the forum yarro83,

Well, it rather looks like you are looking for a condensed computer maintenance course from a few forum answers.

I will answer one question, which may decide some things for you. Yes you will void your warranty.

Now I see that I should be more precise. Please forgive me my approach.

I know how to disassemble laptops, it will not be my first time. So, asking about hardness of doing it with NB30 I meant that some laptops (netbooks) are more complicated than others.
I know also, that software must be installed in some order - and I can't find anything about it, probably becouse it's quite fresh netbook.

I wonder why upgrading memory is allowed while upgrading HD will void warranty.

Please revise my questions and if anyone can help, Ill be glad.

    Thank you for answer

yarro83 - Welcome to the forum

The sammy hdd's are 2.5" sata. You can get the spec of the current drive fitted from Device Manager.

Opening the sammy and replacing the hdd will void the warranty but changing the ram will not AFAIK since they provide an access hatch for this purpose. I understand that Samsung will expect the 1GB ram module to be re-installed if the machine is returned under warranty but if the machine is replaced and you have left the 2GB module in it then it will be lost.

Several forum members have installed Seagate Momentus drives and reported good results.

    Hope this helps

    Hi yarro83,

Changing the HDD won't be difficult for you, your first post seemed rather vague about your experience.

The only order to think about really might be the obvious, the Ethernet or wireless card driver, that being something to load first, to enable any other downloads.

Yarro83, as far as I know I haven't seen any other posts on taking this model apart so I can't point you in the right direction.

This of course means that you might be the first forum member to attempt this which means...

...please take some photos to share with us!

Any pics, notes etc will be gladly shared on the front page (with your approval).

There are some threads etc on other models being taken apart which might give you a clue as to what to expect.

    Search: disassemble

    Cheers.

Yes, I most certainly am. I think the fall sensor is brilliant but I could care less for 160GB. I'd like to upgrade to a Samsung 1TB HDD, but it might be too high at 12.5MM. Or, in the price-dropping future a Samsung 256GB SSD.

The "Black Friday" sales include some SSD's (solid state drives).

Has anyone tried one in their NB30 and compared the performance?

For example, the Kingston SSDNow V Series SNV425-S2/64GB 2.5" 64GB SATA II Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) is $84. on sale -- is it worth it to invest in such an upgrade?
    Thanks!
