2 Finger Scroll Application

I personally am a great fan of the 2 finger scrolling as seen on Mac's with trackpads.

Someone else on this forum vaguely requested an app, so a short search later found this:

two-finger-scroll (google code)

I would recommend disabling your (default with XP synaptics) driver settings relating to pinch as well as both scrolling features.
I've installed this on my NC10 with it's default XP home OS and default synaptics trackpad drivers and works beautifully. I would however say it's a little fast - maybe that can be altered somewhere but I'm not too sure.

Word to the wise, the install is a little odd. When you run the .EXE its not an install I don't think, it is the actual application so it dissapears as if nothing has happened. Obviously to try if it's worked, try scolling on a page!

UPDATE:
Just realised it puts a little tray icon - right click on it and you get a small decent array of settings to alter, such as open program on startup and also sensitivity options. Also supported is a two finger tap feature.

I am looking to install this software but cant find where to disable the driver setting to pinch.

Any help on how to do it?

Assuming you're using Win XP
1. Go to control panel
2. Open the mouse properties.
3. Click on the tab for Device Settings (which should have a little red logo on it).
4. Click on "Settings" and you'll be confronted with a load of Synaptics settings with a tree menu on the left. Pinch is one of the options under "pointer motion".

so, lemme get this straight. If you use two finger it acts like the mouse wheel scroll? So you could use this and then disable the side scroll thing and have more space?

... yes, it's just like a mac if you've used one :-) there's also options for two finger clicking (to use as right mouse button for example) or even things like one finger on, then tap with the other finger. There's 4 optional commands in total, I've tried out a couple of them and they seem great. Middle mouse button for instance is useful shortcut to open links in a new tab in IE.
I find it really makes the trackpad more useable, it's funny how sometimes the simplest things are the best!

I LOVE! this app!! While the scroll is somewhat hyper speed (I suggest turning off acceleration) the use of two finger scroll allows you to regain the full size of the track pad and you no longer need to "find" the scroll area. Coming from the Mac, I became so accustomed to this that I wished every PC worked this way. Now it can... I'm using this under my Server 2008 install and it seems to be trouble free.

In many ways, this helps rectify one of the only complaints of this netbook (small trackpad). Good find jonbad

Oh, I haven't had that much luck with the two finger as a right mouse click option as it seems to want to bring up the context menu everytime I scroll. Perhaps the macbook reads how hard the tap is when deciding if it should initiate a scroll or a rt mouse click? I'll keep playing with the options to see what I can do.

Absolutely found the same thing as you!

I put two finger tap option as my right click, but when i went to put two fingers down to do a scroll, it did a right click AND a scroll movement lol.
I prefered the one finger down, click with other finger to use as a button - I'm not finding the same issues with that.

I believe that older trackpads made by synaptics who seem to have taken over the trackpad PC market didn't have the two finger sensing ability so this google project must be fairly new. Very glad it works on the NC10 though as you say, it totally opens up what was otherwise the only major gripe with the laptop design.

I've turned down the sensitivty on this little application right down to near lowest and it is much smoother now and also I don't keep skipping all over the place, managed to get it just right for me.

This is an amazing program. I've disabled the scrolling portions of the track pad and enabled the 1 + 1 finger middle button. Thanks for the heads up!

I use to own an Eee PC 1000H.

They also had a great track pad software called Elantec.

The features I would love the NC10 to have are

- Scrolling using 2 fingers up or down or left or right (already exists on NC10)
- going back and forward using 3 finger swiping to the left or right (does not exist on NC10)
- 3 finger tap for right click (does not exist on NC10)

Any coders out there that can add these features??
